Hypersensitivity

A hyper-sensitized patient used to be simply atopic but has produced specific IgE against a given allergen. This is the second step towards potentially developing allergies.

Hypersensitivity diagnosis is confirmed by positive prick-tests.

Hypersensitivity is not necessarily accompanied by symptoms, and will not systematically lead to an actual allergy.

For instance, one can be hypersensitized to cats but not be symptomatic when in contact with these animals.

Hypersensitivity may lead to Allergy. This outcome depends on genetic and environmental factors.
